Lemonade Tomatoes

Our next door neighbor's 5 year old son was outside playing while we were outside tending our garden. He wandered over and asked us to tell him what a tomato taste like. It isn't really an easy thing to describe, and before we had a good answer, he offered one. "Lemonade?" he asked. I said no, not like lemonade. So he tried again. "Pepperoni?" No, I said, although that would have been good. His mom told us that he had never actually tasted a tomato. It got me thinking how often we assume that only certain outcomes or experiences are possible in that same childlike way. The truth is that we may be just as close to having lemonade flavored tomatoes sometimes as knowing or predicting what may happen next. I bet that our ideas of the best way to handle situations or what we think we want must sound as illogical to God as believing a tomato could taste like lemonade. What a blessing that God is so much more open minded and creative than we are, and he is able to do more than we can dream up or ask. So I challenge you to pray big prayers, because we cannot imagine what God can do.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” Ephesians 3:20

What if you woke up tomorrow with only what you thanked God for today?

Gratitude is the heart's memory. I have been blessed in immeasurable ways, and one way I keep memories is by writing. It's so easy for us to slip into not expressing gratitude and taking things for granted. I hope this brings me accountability. I hope it also shows me how I have grown a month from now, or a year from now, or beyond that. So what if you woke up tomorrow with only what you thanked God for today?
